Week 49

Current Events

Today there is a class 1 warning for a storm with very hard winds. In some places including Närke it can get up to around 25 wind meters per second, but in Stockholm it will get up to around 20 wind meters per second. It will be cloudy, a lot of rain and also a slight chance of snow, which I really I hope it is.

Book Report
About 4 weeks ago we got an assignment that was supposed to be a book report on a Historical fiction book. The report was supposed to include these following questions. Author, title, cover to the book report, where the book took place, when the book took place, write in point form the most important events, if you were to Change the blurb then it what way would you change it, did any of the characters feelings change as you read, if the main character in your book died at the end of the book then what kind of eulogy would you write, what did you learn from your reading, describe the major conflict in your book and whose side are you on.

Cleaning classrooms
This week we have been cleaning our classrooms a bit because we wanted to organize our classroom because it wasn't tidy. We also got lots of our tests back that we have been doing lately. We did a end of the year cleaning because the year is soon over. There were people that handed out tests and then you were supposed put tests in your black folder and finished work in your green folder. During week 3, we will have our development talks again so we need to be prepared for them before the break.

Soon we are all getting our grades. We are getting them on the mail. Before we get them if we want we can sit down with are teacher and talk about are grades. We would get to fined out why we got what we got and what we can do to improve.

This week (49) we made these cool Christmas boxes with scenes inside of them. The scenes where of course Christmas scenes. Al of them turned out really nice and a nice. The first thing you did was make a box of any color. When you had done that you made a Christmas scene in the box. A lot of people made trees inside the box. When you had done that you could write a poem about what you made or a short story.

Nurse

This week we went to the nurse for a checkup. We went down one at a time and when we came back we sent someone else down. She checked our back, weight and height. She checked our back to see so that we didn't have scoliosis. The people that where sick that day did the checkup when they came back to school.

week48

                                                          Crazy Sickness
This week has been crazy because of sicknesses. We had 8 kids sick on Thursday and 7 kids sick on Friday. This has to do with the flu coming. Some kids were even gone the entire week. 4 kids left school in the middle of the day on Tuesday, the reason they stayed was to do the National Tests. I hope this goes over quick and I wish a healthy recovery for all kids who are sick.

Here are some ideas for you if you are sick: Be at home and stay warm, eat things like noodles or soup, take medicine based on your sickness and get good, long, uninterrupted sleeps.

National Tests In Maths
This week we had national tests in maths and it was oral. We got divided up in groups of 3-4 people and we all did them on Tuesday. Everyone got a paper with a bar graph and some pie graphs on it. We all got a building that we were supposed to find out the answer for and then present for the rest of the group how you got the answer. You were supposed to discuss in a group and help each other if someone needed help.

SO(cial studies)

The last couple of weeks we have been working with the Swedish "Stormakts tiden"with Patrik. Earlier today (27th of November) we started working with the Swedish "Frihets tiden" by watching Swedish  show called "Historie Ätarna" where a Swedish couple pretend to live in different ages and eat disgusting foods that they ate back then. Thee were living in in frihets tiden or pretended to live in frihets tiden.

In Sweden it is tradition to make a Christmas calendar every year for the children in Sweden. This year it will be inspired by the Swedish show historical eaters about people who eat the same food as others from a long time ago. This years Christmas tv show is called " tusen år till julafton". Lotta Lundgren and Erik Haag from historiaätarna are going to be in it. "Tusen år till julafton" is about two grownups and a bunch of kids travel thru time starting at vikingatiden 1015 to Christmas 2015.

 Special day

We have decided to do a special day, this week on  class meeting we decided a date, and now we are supposed to decide what we should have for a special day. Hillary is not going to now what we have for a special day. So it's going to be a surprise for her. We came up with two ideas, a gender day where boys have dresses or something that is typical girl clothes . Girls have suits or  typical boy clothes. The second idea what was that everyone have red blue or white clothes on to respect people's loss in France.

Week 47

This week we have been divided in to groups to make Christmas movies. The movies had to be around a minute long and it had to have a theme that you celebrate during the winter. The theme could be, new years, Christmas, hiwali and lots more.all of them are done and it will be super fun to be able to see them.

                                                              "Stormarkstiden"

This week we have worked with a point in time called "stormarkstiden" it took place from 1611 to 1718. This period of time was named "stormarkstiden" because all of the wars we were with in, like the thirty year old war that took place from 1618-1648. We have a homework due on the 27 of November (next week), where we have to watch a videoclip that is about "stormarkstiden".

On Friday the 13 of November there came a group of terrorists who came and bombed in Paris France. There name is I.S.I.S there known for invading other countries like Syria. Around 100 people were killed and more of whom were injured and many of them had friends and family who are now in grieving. They attacked very quickly and there was about 5 minutes in between each attack. The first attack was near a football arena were a match was going on and the guards thankfully did not let any of the attackers into the area. There were other attacks in restaurants and even at a rock concert were many people died. Our wishes go to the people of France and hatred goes to the bombers.

This is the places that they attacked:

This week we had gym and we were playing basketball. We started with a obstacle course wile we were bouncing a basketball. After that there was 4 stations that we went around and where supposed to do it. At one station We where two people where supposed to pass around the ball and the other two where supposed to take it. In the end of the lesson Monica came and said hi she was going to help the new teachers with the grade.

On Friday we talked about cyber bullying. We started by watching a social media film. The film was about a girl that was obsessed with social media and she uploaded stuff that was not true like for example going to the gym. The film was produced by one of Hillary's old students. When the movie was finished we started talking about how people can be crazy and harass on the Internet other people. We do not agree with this in any way. Cyber bullying is a very serious problem because people try to commit suicide because of depression. There was even a girl who actually did commit suicide after being a laughing stock at her school. Don't cyber bully others. It could happen to you.

This week we watched a movie about social media and it was called social life. It was about a girl that took pictures for social media but all of the pictures were bluffed, for example she took a picture of her with running shoes and said that she was going to go running but really she just went to bed again. She did all this just so that she could get likes and compliments on social media like Facebook or Instagram. In the end she deletes her social media accounts and goes out to actually do the things that she faked in the pictures that she posted. We think the point of the film was to be yourself and not try to be something your not.

Home Economics
This week in home economics we had a homework quiz about washing. This week where the whole class instead of two groups which meant that both groups had to have the quiz even though only one group was supposed to have it. After the test we watched a couple of films about work in Asia and child work in Asia, it showed that a couple of toy and clothes manufacturers like brio and H&M get materials from cheap factories in Asia with bad working environment ad wages for the employees.

Home economics

This week at home economics we had a little test about washing. The time before at home economics we talked about washing so this time we had a little test about it. The questions where about different symbols (the symbols show how you are supposed to wash them). The test contained 2 parts the first part was the some symbols, you then wrote what the symbols mean. Part 2 was questions that you should answer in a few sentences. After the test we watched two movies about children who make the toys, clothes and shoes that we use.

Week 46

Equality Plan

In school on Friday we were talking about the "Likabehandlingsplan" which is the plan Johannes School have which tells how everyone should be treated the same and no one should be teased, bullied or left out. Our class would read one paragraph at a time and try to summarize it in one sentence, it worked out well.

Here is our summary so far.

At Johannes School we have a plan that tells us to treat everyone equally with respect. Everyone should be treated according to their own needs. Our differences make us stronger and special.

Photo analysis
This week we analyzed a photo and answered some questions about the photo. The questions were grouped in four different letters. We did this so we could get a grade in art. We discussed some of the questions like when it could be or where it could be and we discussed about it for a long time.  Here is the photo that we analyzed.
Next week in school, we will analyze a photo that will be assessed as part of our Art grade.

Art
This week in art we had a substitute named Lolu because our original teacher (Ulla) was sick. Ulla our original teach will not be able to give us a full grade because she has been absent many times that is why Hillary and Lolu will help her with the grades. But anyways we made folders that we later on will put our work in.

Home economics

This week in home economics we were only talking about washing and what you use and how to wash clothes and sorting them in colors, dark colors for themselves and colorful colors for themselves. After writing all that down on paper we looked at all the signs that are on a tag inside most shirts. There were five kinds of signs. Squares to show if it can handle tumble drying. Circles was "kemtvätt", the triangle was if it could handle clorine bleeching syrum inside the washing liquids, then the 4th kind decides how to wash it (with, without water, by hand etc) and the 5h kind was wether you could and how warm you could iron it. Then the firedrill went off and we spent most the rest of the lesson on that.

The show in aulan
On Thursday we watched a show in aulan at 10:00. The show went on for 45 minutes and the theme was acrobatics/story and it was a little childish. I think it was meant for younger audience so it was a little boring but it also had moments of being super cool. There was one part where a man juggled and that looked really cool and then a woman stood on the mans head. Overall it was a nice experience and we would do it again even though it was probably for a more young audience and not for 6th graders.

 Current events
Bodies of several bodies found in a town close to the Czech border
German police say the bodies of several babies have been found in a town close to the Czech border.
The dead were discovered on Thursday after a woman in a town called Wallenfels called the police. Police said they were going to interview the previous owner of the house, a 45-year-old women. It is not clear how long the bodies had been there for or how the babies died. German media reported that a couple with many children had been living in the property but had recently separated.

Swedish National Test
We did the Swedish national test and it was pretty fun we made a text about our favorite food. There was groups of three and one that was four. Then listens to a recorded story about these cousins that go and stay at there aunts island. We only listened  to five or six minutes.  We also got some questions about the story. Each group hade a 30min.

Book Report
This week we got a new book report. This time we are supposed to read a historical fiction book. The book report is due on the 3d of December. We got a paper where it said everything that we where going to write. There where two parts that had three points in each. Our job is to write about two points on each.
Textile Crafts

This week in crafts we worked on a piece of clothing. Some people did hats or shoes others did shirts. We are going to be graded on these pieces of clothing and it has taken a long time. In wood work we some people were still working on their old work and some started to do their own stuff.

Maths (graphs)

This week we went over graphs, it was  good to refresh are memory of how to read a graph. After that we got some papers with different questions with t. ex bar graphs, line graphs and photographs. Some people are done and some aren't, I think that it was pretty easy but some questions where harder.

Week 43

This principals wrote a letter to everyone about the tragedy.

http://www.johannesskola.stockholm.se/nyheter/2015/10/23/information-med-anledning-av-den-tragiska-handelsen-i-trollhattan

Home Economics

In home economics this week we made minced meat soup with potatoes, carrot and leek. The soup turned out to be delicious! It was very tasteful and made my tastebuds explode of juiciness. We savored every bite of the soup. At the end of the lesson we watched a movie about how the water is cleaned and how much people use water, For example in Canada they use up to 600 000liters of water per person a day, But in other parts of the world, they only use a tenth of that each day.

Today the 22/10 we are celebrating UN day. UN day the United Nations was created in 1945. Every year, the United Nations assists 38 million refugees, saving them from wars, conflicts, famine and persecution. The official day is on the 24 of October but in school we celebrate it on the 22 because the 24 is on a Saturday United Nations The UN can't decide laws, but they help to solve conflicts in different nations. The UN views that how small or poor nation is, it still has a voice and say in the development of the world.

We are going to the massive auditorium to listen and sing with the wonderful 3rd graders. Here are some awesome songs they are going to sing: Äppelmelodi, We are the world, Heal the world and All we are saying is give peace a chance. This will be fun, exiting and interesting. Thomas is on the guitar which will sound great. Patrick(fritids) Is on the big drums. David is on the sweet base. Ullrika is on a classic violin.

This week we wrote peace poems for the UN day. There were three types of poems that you could write about the first one was a couplet. A couplet is a pair of lines. Typically they rhyme and have the same topic . They also make up a unit or complete thought , the second one was a acrostic poem and the third was a word count cinquain. Those poems we put up on the wall in the staircase. The poems were about the world or peace or something with the UN day. A Acrostic poem is when you write a topic and then you write words that start with the letters in the word. Like this:

During the last 14 years the immigrants that need help that have come to Sweden have increased, 95 thousand people just in Sweden! Most of these people are fleeing from their home countries were there is most commonly war. All these wars are bad for the world and for the people. The past 3 seconds somebody died from starvation and a minute from now 20 people will have died and at least 3 of them will be young children a good mix of girls and boys

This week the 1 kr campaign has ended. This month only we have gotten a total of 4541 kr which is 1500 kr over our starting goal. We sent the money to the Red Cross and we are glad that so many people wanted to donate money. We got inspired by an article to do this 1 kr campaign and it was a success. We are thinking of doing this again since it was really fun.

                                                                    Music
During music this week we sang  "We are the world", "Heal the world "and "Äppel melodi". We sang these songs because we were practicing for UN day. We also got to choose two songs to listen to. They were Black Magic by little mix and Real American by hulk hogan. There was a boy and a girl  in the class that got to choose a song and a girl took "Black Magic"and a boy took "Real American".

Instructions
This great week we wrote detailed instructions in Swedish. It was amazingly fun to see if our instructions were easy to follow.
The instructions had to tell how to get from our classroom to the gym hall. After we had written them, we had to give them to a partner and let them try to get to the gym hall by reading the instructions. It was super fun to compare yours to the others that you  followed . The instructions were super clear and enjoyable to follow. It was interesting to read others instructions and to compare them to how they wrote them.

Halloween
This years as you maybe know we are not having the Halloween tunnel because of renovation that is going to take place in the basement. Instead of the Halloween tunnel we are having different groups that are having Halloween theme stations. The stations will be in the 6B classroom, the reference room and in the Auditorium.

All the stations

Eyeball Throwing

Spooky Scary Boxes

Ghostbusters:

Wrap N Run:

Halloween Quest:

Spooky Room:

The week after the holiday we are having national tests in English. This term we have the spoken part and next term it will be written. Hillary said that the English part will be really easy for us since its made for the Swedish kids. We will also be speaking about maths somehow. These tests are very nerve racking tests. These tests will not hardly be the normal tests cause they will be more harder than the normal tests.

YIPPEE! NEXT WEEK WE DON'T HAVE SCHOOL!! Have a great holiday everyone!

week 42

                                                              | Current Events |
                                                | OSM - Online Soccer Manager |

A large amount of boys in the class have started with a social football game. This game is called OSM - Online Soccer Manager. How the game works is that everyone who wants to joins a league with only us in it, we choose a team and manage that team. For example we choose the tactics of that team we also trade players with each other. There is one game played per day at 21:00 that is simulated so that we do not have to be awake at that time. After each game you had the option to train your team. This is a recent obsession that a large amount of people like.

Social studies

Week 41

Swedish
This week in Swedish we wrote a fictional text about a made-up animal that we made up with help of our imagination from scratch. First we got a paper to write down key words under different topics. For example: age and food. When we had done that we where allowed to start writing. The point of the assignment was to write a text with the structure of a fictional text.

Student Rotation

In student rotation (Hillary) we had a test about vitamins and minerals. The question to the test was " if you were in a hurry to your practice or something and you didn't have time to go home and eat with your family and you had to eat at a fast food place like McDonalds, Max, Burger King what would you eat? "
What you were supposed to do was to write what vitamins and minerals are in that meal.

NO

We had a substitute during NO he had lived in China for 5 years, so he talked Chinees to us in the end of the class. He wrote 9 questions on the board about nature stuff. We where supposed to think about something to write a argumentitive text with something  with the enviorment to do. On the 15 of the October we are going to have a written assesment wich will be fun.

                                                          Home economics

We also saw a chart of how much money we use on different stuff, like food, free time, cars, other. We also saw a movie about money. Earlier this month we had a test on "samhällskunskap" which we felt went well.

                                                            Evacuating training

It was vey fun.

Greenhouse effect

Earth is heating up and that's bad.the North Pole is melting meaning more water in the sea. The water level will rise and if the sea rise 1meter it will mean that 100 meters of land Will be water. There are a lot of ice from the ice age on Greenland still and it never melts.

When we had cooked the meat and prepared the bread we ate it!

Cyberbullying
This week we have been talking about cyberbullying. We talked about what cyberbullying was and we read a page on Internet were they had written some examples of things that are considered cyberbullying but maybe you didn't realize that you had done some of those things before. Cyberbullying is when you say mean thing or criticising things about someone else on the Internet and social media.

SO test
This Friday we had a social studies test. The test was about the society and laws that we have to follow, the courthouse and how it works. The test was also about how laws become laws. We're going to all of the classes in school next week to collect the money that they have collected form everyone in there class that donated.

Week 39

ART

In art we are studying sculptures. We had homework that each individual had to photograph five different sculptures and then choose one to continue to photograph in different angles. We should also write about the sculpture we chose.  A few questions we had answer in our text, when was it built, who made it and what material it made of.

Here is some sculptures.

GYM
This week in gym we had different stations where we did different kinds of physical tranings. For example push ups, step ups, squats, sit ups, triseps push ups and we also did 90 degrease against a wall, we hung from the bars and lifting are legs up with out bending them. At the end of the lesson we played "evighetsstafett" that is when you are in two different teams and run around a circle and try to tag the person in front of you.

"Riksbanken"
On Wednesday September 23rd we went to the central bank of Sweden and there Seán's dad Patrik was talking about banking in general and some facts about the bank. We got to know what inflation in money was and that the central bank of Sweden was the first central bank in the world. Then this guy called "Tommie". He showed us the new banknotes and also told us why they changed them. We also got to know that we were one of the first people in Sweden to actually see the banknotes and coins. The reason why they changed them was to make it harder to copy them and to change the amount of banknotes you have in your wallet. They changed the coins because the old coins weight too much. The 20, 50, 200 and 1000 kr banknotes are coming out next week. To be exact they are coming out October 1st. The old 20, 50 and 1000 kr banknotes become unusable after the June 30th next year. The new coins and the 100 and 500 kr banknotes are coming out October 2016, and the old become unusable June 30th 2017.

Riksbanken

Courthouse
This week we went to the court house. The whole entire grade went to Rådhuset  by Kungsholmen. When we went in it was kind of like the school but much bigger and filled with men and woman in suits. We got split into 2 group and each group got to go to different court cases. One group got resisting arrest as their case and the other group got handling of stolen goods. It was interesting to see a court case in action for real. The group that got resisting arrest didn't hear the sentence that the prosecuted person got, but the second groups convicted person got 7000kr fine. Overall it was an exiting experience.

Social Studies
On Friday we were in groups of four to work on our social studies test we were gonna take next week. We divided study-groups by colours. In the end of the lesson Patrick told us that we could take the social studies book home to study. Patrik thinks that all of us will do good in the test. We will get 6 questions to answer on the test. The last question was the one that you should write most about. We have been watching movies about different types of crimes and laws to improve our knowledge of the subject. We went to "Riksdagen" earlier this week to see how it actually was inside, we had seen video clips of how it is inside but it was way cooler to be there.

 Crafts

In woodwork we continued making our boxes that are supposed to resemble our selfs. If you were done with the boxes then you were supposed to fill in a paper with information about what you did, how you did it, draw a picture, the measurements and stuff like that. The next project was to make something your choice out of metal, like a bowl or something.

Modern languages
This week in Spanish we were talking about a test. You were meant to present yourself and say what you were called and  where you lived. You also had to say if you had a sister dad and mom and what their names was. We also did a couple of worksheets in our book about spelling and common phrases.

In German we learned  how to say where we are from, how are you and how we are feeling. We listened to a radio program about a guy who goes to Germany and it is called "Anders vs Tyska". We got home work and we can go in on a website that you can listen to German conversations.

Student Rotation

We all got new groups in students rotation on Thursday.  Students rotation is a new version of students choice, but they thought it was unfair that some people got more time to practice on certain subjects, so instead they made groups that rotate between different subjects (NO with Lotta, SO with Micke, Gym with Hanna and nutrition with Hillary). The rotations are 3 weeks in a row on Thursday at 10:00 - 11:20. With Lotta we work with atoms and we get a test on the last lesson. In Micke's subject we talk about all the minority languages in Sweden. In gym we don't do that much, we just do random gym lessons and we have no theme. In nutrition we talk about vitamins and what they do for your body.

Maths
In maths we started doing percent and learned how to do it witch is was  fun and All. We did some pages in our maths witch was fun. We also got a math package that we had to work with. We were doing maths with decimals before we started with percent. But we think that it was fun that've started on a new math subject. So we have to work on percentage now.

Home Economics

This week on Home economics we had a choice between  graham flower buns or tea cookies both are a type of bread that has yeast in the dough. The difference between graham flower buns  and tea cookies is that the graham flower buns have flour that is made from a whole corn and the tea cookies did not. Both did have wheat. We had two hours to make the bread and put them in a paper bag with your name on and took it home. If you did the tea cookies you got six buns but with the graham flower buns  you got four.

                                                        Music

In music we played guitar and it was really fun. It was fun because we had never played it before. Our music teacher also taught us how to play two different chords like A chord and the C chord. You were two and two and you got one guitar that you could play the two chords with. My favorite one was the A chord.

It was really fun because some people like me had never been on Gotland before and we did a lot of different activities and games.  We went bathing on a very nice beach on Fåre which is an island right outside Gotland. Parents ask't what rating the kids would put and most of them put 4 because lots of kids said they wanted more free time.

Syria project

As you have seen on every news station ever made, Syria is having a hard time of war with the government. Refugees takes rubber boats from Turkey to Europe. It's a deadly trip with the rubber boats from Turkie to Greece.
Sweden and Germany is two country that let  refugees in the country but in other country's don't let them in because it coset a lot. So we are going to donate money.we are going to tell people in school to donate 1kr or more and if every one dose it we will get a lot of money.

GYM

This week on gym we have played a game called "flaggan". The goal of the game is to get over the opponents flag and get back to your own side.  Then you have captured there flag. In an extra edition to that there is prisons when you get tagged it makes it more challenging. We think that the game was fun because it was quiet equal teams.
Then about ten minutes after we ended we played some football. The teams on football was the same as the ones on "flaggan".

Religion

This week in religion we learned about hinduism, one of the oldest religions in the world. We got to worked on a couple of papers with questions. We learned about the "elephant" god Ganesha, and that in a way all the gods are connecetd. Shiva and Parvati were together, but only shiva wanted a kid. So shiva made a bundle of cloth come alive, but when Parvati gave the baby alot of attention he became jelious so he cut the baby's head off and replaced it with an elephant head, so that became Ganesha.
